Am I confused because I've not been watching the show, or am I confused because it was confusing?

I haven't been watching the show. I tried the first few episodes back when it first aired, and it felt too much like a parody of Life on Mars, and I missed Sam too much to carry on watching. I've spent a large proportion of the day reading Gene/Sam Life on Mars fic and I've decided it's time to be honest with myself.

Ashes to Ashes is on in ten minutes and...do I watch it? I really didn't like the pilot and I'm worried that if I watch too much and it's still awful it'll start to retrospectively tarnish my love for Gene in Life on Mars and that's a major 'do not want'. I really can't decide how I feel about this. Excited and apprehensive and disapproving all at the same time? It's Gene Hunt, which is entirely of the good, but it's sans Sam, which is entirely of the bad, and...it could go either way, I guess? Isn't that stupid? I have this cold heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach, and I can't help but feel that everything is going to go horribly wrong and I'll end up weeping into my pillow all night before turning up for work tomorrow morning looking like the living dead.
